1. Use your old phone as a remote control : smartphones can be used as remote controls all right. However, you wouldn’t think of using your phone as a remote control only. But then, when you have a new phone, you don’t really need to walk around with the old one. So, you might as well use it as a TV remote. There are lots of remote control apps on the Play Store, so try them out.

2. You can make a dedicated alarm clock out of your phone. Just download a good alarm app, enable daydream mode in display settings, then place the phone on a phone stand by your bedside.

3. You can join your smartphone to a network of phones, computers and consoles around the world. This network forms a supercomputer, which is used by the Stanford University to simulate protein folding. Protein folding is a physical process through which a protein chain gets it’s 3-dimensional structure. As of now,
scientists are yet to fully understand how it works. One thing we know now is that protein misfolding has been linked to the development of Alzhemer’s disease,
Parkinson’s disease and many cancers. All you need to do to join this supercomputer is to download the Folding@Home app and leave it running on your old phone.

4. You can use your old phone as a surveillance camera .
This is especially useful, as a lot of our smartphones have really good cameras. Just download surveillance apps like Salient Eye or Trackview on your device and
set it up.

5. Use it as an MP3 player: A lot of us play songs on our smartphones. However, not everyone has considered using their phone solely for playing music. When there
is nothing else on your phone, you can use it as a music player. Also, you can use your phone solely for watching videos. Think of it as your portable Home Theater system.
Just make sure you clear out
everything else on the phone to create space for your music and video files.

6. If you don’t have a GPS antenna for your car, you can use your old phone as one. Just download a good navigation app, like Google Maps, and download all the
offline maps that you need. Then attach the phone to your car or bike, and you are set.

7. You can also use your old smartphone as a modem or WiFi hotspot . When you subscribe to a suitable data plan, all you need to do is switch on your mobile
hotspot and connect any other device you wish.

These are just some of the things you could do with old smartphones.
